South America Lumber Supplying Premium Tropical Hardwoods for Marine and Heavy-Duty Construction

South America Lumber delivers rough-sawn Greenheart lumber with thicknesses from 1” to 12” and widths up to 12”.

South America Lumber supplies a range of durable tropical hardwoods, including Greenheart, Wallaba, Basralocus, and Purpleheart, for projects across the Caribbean and beyond. Known for exceptional strength, durability, and resistance to marine borers and decay, these hardwoods are used in seawalls, docks, bridges, trestles, fender systems, and other demanding marine and industrial applications.

Greenheart Lumber

South America Lumber delivers rough-sawn Greenheart lumber in thicknesses from 1 inch to 12 inches and widths up to 12 inches. This dense hardwood offers natural resistance to marine borers, termites, and fungi, eliminating the need for chemical treatment.

Structural Beams and Timbers

The company offers Greenheart structural beams and timbers up to 12” x 12” x 40’, ideal for bridge supports, trestles, and other heavy structural applications where strength and longevity are critical.

Machined Fender Systems

South America Lumber also provides machined Greenheart fender systems for port structures, dolphins, and impact zones. The wood’s compression parallel to grain is 7,240 psi, and it is extremely resistant to decay and marine borers.

South America Lumber is delivering a container of greenheart decking to the Caribbean, supplying durable hardwood for an upcoming project.

Square and Round Piles

The company supplies Greenheart square piles as well as round piles up to 100 feet long. Round piles are available in Greenheart, Wallaba, and Basralocus, making them suitable for seawalls, docks, and fender systems. Greenheart round pilings feature minimal taper—approximately 1 inch reduction per 15 linear feet—to maximize bearing and friction capacity.

Purpleheart Lumber

The company also offers Purpleheart (Peltogyne spp.), a dense and durable hardwood known for its vibrant purple heartwood that darkens to brown with age. Purpleheart features a medium-fine texture, straight to wavy grain, and medium-to-high luster. It is stronger than mahogany and more affordable than teak, making it suitable for both heavy-duty and aesthetic applications. Freshly cut Purpleheart starts as dull brown, turning bright purple before maturing to a rich tone; its color can be restored through re-cutting or UV-inhibiting finishes.
