Tang Road Steel Retaining Wall Project Improves Drainage Behind Sheet Pile Structure

The Tang Road Repair Project at Naval Base Kitsap in Kitsap County, Washington, was launched to improve drainage and structural performance behind steel sheet pile retaining walls. The initiative focused on repairing an MSE seawall, replacing the road surface, and upgrading an undersized culvert. Given the marine conditions and risks of embankment saturation, a durable solution was required to relieve hydrostatic pressure, control erosion, and retain soil adjacent to the critical roadway.

JET Filter System provided 73 units of the JF4SSCVLV, a 4-inch diameter closed-end maintainable weep hole filter with check valve. Each assembly features ASTM 316/316L stainless steel housing and Mirafi® Filter-Weave FW 300 geotextile filter media. The 73 maintainable weep hole assemblies were installed through the new sheet pile wall system, ensuring long-term flow stability and providing essential access for future maintenance and flushing.

The project involved steel sheet piling as the primary material and utilized 73 JET Filter JF4SSCVLV weep holes. Oversight and engineering were provided by Reid-Middleton, with Condon-Johnson & Associates serving as the contractor. The project was completed in October 2024.
