DP World Callao – Muelle del Bicentenario, Perú’s Flagship Project Protected by 22 ShibataFenderTeam Cone Fenders
The Port of Callao in Lima has seen its South Terminal—operated by DP World—transformed in recent years with the construction of Muelle del Bicentenario. The addition of 400 meters to the terminal has extended its total length to 1,050 meters, making it the longest in the country. This expansion allows the South Terminal to service up to three vessels simultaneously, including two vessels of up to 400 meters in length, making it the only terminal in the country able to handle this size.
Mota-Engil, the contractor awarded the terminal project, commissioned ShibataFenderTeam to equip the new extension quay with fender solutions. ShibataFenderTeam designed, manufactured, delivered, and tested 22 sets of Cone Fenders (SPC 1300, G2.9), with closed-box steel panels (2300×4850 mm) and 40 mm thick UHMW-PE sliding plates. The project scope also included 22 T-Head bollards with a capacity of 150 tons.
Precision Beyond the Standard
The specific requirements of this project demanded a customized design and manufacturing approach. First, our in-house engineering team designed a solution comprised of Cone Fenders with a strict tolerance of +/-5%, exceeding the industry’s standard of +/-10%. The fenders were also designed to have a minimum service life of 20 years to support the terminal’s goal of carbon neutrality by 2030 through reduced replacements.
In the second step, this precise tolerance was ensured through meticulous quality control during manufacturing at our fully owned compound and mixing facility in Malaysia. The process concluded at the same facility with the rigorous testing of the fenders to confirm the tighter tolerances.
As the leading fender manufacturer with solid experience in the maritime sector, SFT is capable of offering solutions that provide precision beyond industry standards. The Muelle del Bicentenario project has strengthened the Port of Callao’s position as a key logistics hub and strategic point for the country’s foreign trade; we are proud to have contributed to it with products and services.
