Building Bigger: PierTech’s Hercules™ System Brings Helical Efficiency to High-Capacity Foundations

As commercial, industrial, utility and infrastructure projects continue to demand higher capacities, tighter schedules and more predictable installation, deep foundation contractors are being asked to do more—often with less disruption to the surrounding jobsite. PierTech Systems developed its Hercules™ product line for exactly that challenge: extending the speed and installation advantages of helical foundations into projects that require significantly greater capacity, larger pile diameters and higher installation torque.

At the center of the line is the patented Hercules™ High-Capacity Pile System, a large-diameter steel helical pile engineered for demanding structural loads. Hercules piles are available in diameters ranging from 4 to 48 inches and can support loads up to 500 tons per pile, providing engineers and contractors with a broad design range for commercial, industrial, utility, energy and infrastructure applications.

That capacity is only part of the story. The Hercules system retains many of the characteristics that have made helical foundations attractive on time-sensitive and constrained jobsites. Installation produces zero vibration and low noise, requires minimal excavation and can be performed in a wide range of weather conditions. Those characteristics can make the system especially valuable where surrounding structures, ongoing operations, environmental disturbance or limited jobsite access are important considerations.

Performance You Can Verify During Installation

One of the defining advantages of a helical foundation is the information available during installation. As a pile advances into the ground, installation torque can be monitored and documented. That torque can be correlated to pile capacity, giving the project team real-time information about how the pile is performing in the actual soil conditions encountered in the field.

For contractors and engineers, that can provide an important level of predictability. Rather than treating installation as a process that must be completed before performance can be evaluated, torque data provides feedback as the work progresses. Once properly installed, helical piles are also capable of accepting load immediately, eliminating concrete cure time and allowing subsequent construction activities to move forward sooner.

On projects with hundreds or even thousands of foundation elements, those efficiencies can add up quickly—not only in installation time, but in sequencing, labor and overall site logistics.

Hercules piles can also be manufactured around the requirements of an individual project. Soil conditions, structural loads, installation depth, corrosion requirements and site constraints can all influence pile configuration. PierTech’s in-house engineering team works with contractors and project engineers to evaluate those variables and develop a solution around the specific demands of the project.

That integration between engineering and manufacturing becomes increasingly important as foundation loads and pile diameters increase. High-capacity deep foundations are rarely a one-size-fits-all application. The ability to coordinate design, manufacturing and field installation helps reduce the gaps that can develop when those responsibilities are separated.

The Equipment to Install What You Engineer

Large-diameter piles also require installation equipment capable of delivering substantial torque. Supporting the pile system is PierTech’s Hercules™ line of high-torque helical drive heads.

The Hercules drive head family includes 60K, 150K and 300K configurations. The largest model delivers more than 300,000 ft-lbs of maximum torque, providing the installation power needed for large-diameter piles and demanding soil conditions. Unlike general-purpose auger drives adapted for foundation work, the Hercules drive heads are designed specifically around the requirements of helical pile installation.

Combined with torque monitoring equipment, the result is a coordinated system: the pile, the equipment used to install it and the data used to verify installation performance are designed to work together.

That system approach also gives contractors the ability to expand the types of work they can pursue. Applications can range from multi-story commercial construction and industrial facilities to utility structures, energy projects, equipment foundations and critical infrastructure.

Investing in Large-Diameter Manufacturing

As demand for these larger foundation systems has grown, PierTech has made a significant investment in expanding its ability to manufacture them.

In June 2026, PierTech opened a new 50,000-square-foot manufacturing facility dedicated specifically to the production of high-capacity, large-diameter helical piles. The first phase of the facility is complete, with production already supporting projects across North America.

The expansion is about more than adding square footage. Large-diameter pile manufacturing brings a different set of production requirements. Heavier materials, larger components, specialized equipment and project-specific configurations all have to move through the manufacturing process efficiently while maintaining dimensional accuracy and quality.

By creating a facility dedicated to this segment of the market, PierTech has increased its manufacturing capacity while creating a production environment specifically designed around large pile projects. The investment is intended to improve production efficiency, increase capacity for large orders and help reduce turnaround times while maintaining the flexibility required for custom-engineered solutions.

For contractors, manufacturing capacity can become just as important as engineering capacity. A foundation solution only creates value if the manufacturer can produce it consistently and on the schedule the project requires. That becomes especially important on major commercial, industrial and infrastructure projects where delays in foundation delivery can affect multiple trades downstream.

PierTech manufactures its foundation systems using high-strength domestic steel and offers hot-dip galvanization where additional corrosion protection is required. Bringing engineering, manufacturing and installation expertise together provides greater control from the initial foundation design through production and ultimately installation in the field.

Built for Bigger Foundation Challenges

Ultimately, Hercules represents more than simply scaling up a conventional helical pile.

It is a high-capacity foundation platform intended to bring the advantages associated with helical installation—speed, low disturbance, installation verification and flexibility—to projects traditionally associated with much larger deep foundation systems.

The opening of PierTech’s new manufacturing facility reinforces that direction. As structures become larger, project schedules tighter and jobsites more complex, contractors and engineers need foundation options capable of meeting higher loads without sacrificing constructability.

With pile diameters up to 48 inches, capacities up to 500 tons, purpose-built high-torque installation equipment, in-house engineering and now a dedicated 50,000-square-foot large-diameter manufacturing facility, PierTech has built the Hercules line around that need.

For contractors facing bigger foundation challenges, the objective is straightforward: provide the capacity required by the structure while preserving the installation advantages that made helical foundations attractive in the first place.
