Recent Case Studies of Pressed-In Piling Projects Completed in NYC

Gowanus Canal

The Press-in Method was utilized for another section of the Gowanus Canal Remediation Project in Brooklyn, NY due to adjacent vibration-sensitive structures. Thicker sheet piles with sacrificial thickness were used instead of sheet pile coating to increase the piling production rates for this section. The design life of the structure can also be increased with the added thickness, and recoating of the sheet piles will not be required after installation.

ADA Upgrade at Lorimer St Station

The Press-in Method was used for temporary support of excavation in a dense residential area of Brooklyn. There were vibration, noise, and access challenges associated with the adjacent occupied residential building. Due to the gravels and boulders encountered, the Press-in Method in the Crush Auger Mode was used for the pile installation. Prior to the start of piling, Giken America will review the soil borings to recommend the most efficient driving method for the project.
