ShibataFenderTeam Delivered Fender Solutions for Cruise Terminal in Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon, France

25 kilometers off the Canadian coast, but still a little piece of France, the archipelago of Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon is a destination with an outstanding biodiversity. After centuries of service to the fishing industry and following a strong wish to develop tourism on the island, the Port of Saint-Pierre initiated works to build a cruise terminal in 2016. The project scope included the renovation and fitting of the deep-water quay to safely accommodate the berthing of cruise ships.

The excellent cooperation between our French colleagues and the client STP (Société de Travaux Publics) working together with the construction company Charier, resulted in a customized solution including: 9 V Fenders (500x1000mm, G3.1), 6 Pneumatic Fenders (Ø2500x5500mm) sling type and 8 Bollards with different load ratings (from 50t to 150t).

The project was not without some challenges, such as the climatic conditions linked to the geographical location of the island. The swell, wind and a harsh and prolonged winter period limited the possibility to work on site; nevertheless, the SFT team was able to meet the demanding schedule and delivered on time, in July 2021.

ShibataFenderTeam is happy to have contributed to the safe operations in the refurbished port, an infrastructure that will make Saint-Pierre a new stopover on the St. Lawrence cruise circuit.
